UK Army Aviation trainer upgrade awarded to Rockwell Collins
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (June 24, 2008) - Rockwell Collins has been awarded the sixth phase of the Mission Command Trainer® (MCT™) upgrade of the United Kingdom Army's Aviation Command and Tactics Trainer (ACTT).
Valued at $5.5 million, this phase of the program includes 60 channels of the EPX-50 Image Generator, 12 Integrated Helmet
and Display Sighting Systems, avionics, weapons and after action review upgrades. Rockwell Collins serves as the prime contractor
for ACTT.
The increased field of view reflects current Tactics, Techniques and Procedures (TTPs) being used by our front line aircrew
on operations. Finally, this latest enhancement will expand the ACTT's role in facilitating joint pre-deployment training.
"This award validates our performance on the program and continues our tradition of providing advanced tactical training capability
for the United Kingdom Army," said Kent Statler, executive vice president of Rockwell Collins Services. "Our EPX technology
provides tremendous value in preparing soldiers for operation in today's high threat environment."
Col. Alex Tucker, Commandant School of Army Aviation said, "The Phase 6 upgrade, which includes the incorporation of the IHADSS,
will ensure that the ACTT continues to play a key role in the Command and Tactics training of our pilots."
The MCT is a low-cost tactics simulator that provides training, mission planning, and mission rehearsal against a dynamic,
intelligent enemy in a virtual environment, all in the safety and security of a classroom. Using real-world, high-fidelity
databases created by Rockwell Collins, the MCT allows students to experience maneuvers and battles while instructors observe
and evaluate their performance. Each system features an instructor station networked together with as many student stations
as needed. After-action review capabilities enable classroom debrief of maneuvers.
The School of Army Aviation has successfully used the tactics trainer for the Attack Helicopter Mission Commanders course
in addition to the following already supported courses: Army Pilots Course (APC) - Operational Training Phase (OTP), Aviation
Mission Commanders Course, and the Squadron Commanders Course, as well as the Electronic Warfare Instructors Course.
